Original German WWII Luftwaffe Gravity Knife by Paul Weyersberg & Co. of Solingen with Waffen Proof

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This example was produced by Paul Weyersberg & Co. of Solingen, who were one of the major producers of this knife during WWII. The company "Sword-and-Wreath" logo is engraved into the blade, though sharpening has obscured it partially, as well as ROSTFREI (rust free) indicating stainless steel construction. Solingen is known as the "City of Blades" and has a centuries-old history of edged weapon production.

This example has fine, stainless steel components. There is a number 7 stamped on the underside and side of the blade release, and also a Waffen Eagle on the base of the marlin spike. The knife is fully functional, with all parts intact and no springs broken. The blade release functions properly, and the marlin spike locks into place.

The blade of this knife has been sharpened several times, and unfortunately not with the proper tools, so a lot of the original finish and markings have been removed. The blade is however quite sharp at present. There is some oxidation, which can happen when Stainless Steel is itself exposed to rust, or is sharpened without allowing the oxide layer to form. This knife almost has the look of one from a pilot who bailed out, and only had the gravity knife to rely on.

The grip plates are of walnut with the standard four retaining rivets. These plates are in good condition throughout, with a bit of staining around the rivets and edges from use and possible weathering.

A Luftwaffe Gravity Knife with a wonderful battle-worn look from the storied "City of Blades"!
