Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice original German WWII Luftwaffe Flak Artillery Hauptmann officer’s Four Pocket Fliegerbluse (Flight Blouse) Service Tunic, made from lovely Luftwaffe Fliegerblau (Flyer's Blue) Blue Gray wool. There is a great six-place ribbon bar showing service in the Spanish Civil War. The tunic is not depot marked and has the appearance of a privately purchased officer’s garment, with higher-quality insignia and finishing appropriate to an officer’s uniform.

The fliegerbluse tunic features a five pebbled button front closure with a hook and loop closure at the collar, and it has four squared pleated pockets with scalloped button-down flaps. The pebbled buttons on the tunic are all non-magnetic, most likely made entirely of aluminum. They are stitched directly to the uniform fabric.

The right breast of the uniform has a correct gorgeous embroidered bullion Luftwaffe eagle sewn in place with the correct stitching pattern. It is only stitched to the outer layer of fabric, so it is the original eagle installed on this uniform tunic.

The collar of this officer's tunic has a twisted bullion border, correct for a Luftwaffe officer's fliegerbluse. The attached Kragenpatten (Collar Flaps) are in Tiefrot (Deep Red), the correct Waffenfarbe (Corps Color) for Luftwaffe Flak Anti-aircraft troops and other Artillery, and the collar has the correct silver bullion trim for an officer. The Schulterklappen (Shoulder Boards or Epaulettes) have the same color piping, and have four rows of silver "Russia Braid" around the edge with two "Pips" added, indicating the rank of Hauptmann (Captain). This is confirmed by the collar insignia, which each show three "gull wing" insignia over a wreath.

There is also a very nice six award medal ribbon bar over the upper left breast pocket, which indicates the owner received the Iron Cross Second Class 1939 EKII, the War Merit Cross with crossed swords device, the Eastern Front medal, the Luftwaffe Wehrmacht Long Service award 4th class (4 years), the Czech Occupation Medal, and the Spanish Civil War campaign medal with crossed swords device. The long service award has an early "droop tail" eagle on it, so it was awarded during the pre-war era.

Additional award loops remain on the left breast, including loops on the pocket and another set below it. These would have permitted the wearer to attach additional pinback or suspended decorations according to the occasion and order of dress. This makes for an exciting display opportunity.

Overall condition is very good, with only a few small moth holes and light age toning and wear to the insignia. No major tears, extensive repairs, or other serious structural condition problems are apparent. The wool remains attractive, the four-pocket configuration is substantially intact, and the bullion insignia and six-place ribbon bar provide considerable visual and historical detail.

The Luftwaffe was publicly established as Germany’s air force in 1935, and its uniform system included distinct garments for service, flying, field, tropical, technical, and ceremonial wear. Officers commonly obtained privately tailored uniforms of better-quality materials than standard depot-issued garments. The Tuchrock was the conventional four-pocket service tunic, while the Fliegerbluse was a different, shorter fly-fronted garment. This distinction is important on the present example because its five-button front, four pleated external pockets, open collar, officer piping, and branch-colored insignia are characteristic of the Luftwaffe service Tuchrock. The Luftwaffe’s formal establishment in 1935 is also documented by the Royal Air Force Museum.

This is a particularly strong Luftwaffe officer’s uniform because the principal elements form a coherent Flak Artillery Hauptmann configuration: deep-red branch insignia, matching Hauptmann collar patches and shoulder boards, bullion breast eagle, six-place ribbon bar spanning prewar and wartime service, and surviving loops for additional decorations. The minor moth damage and age toning are the primary condition considerations, while the insignia, buttons, ribbon bar, and overall tailoring remain very well preserved.
