Original Item: Only One Available. This is an original German WWII Luftwaffe Gedenkplatte commemorative porcelain plate produced by Meissen for the Luftwaffen-Bau-Regiment (Holland). Measuring approximately 10" in diameter, it features an elaborate blue underglaze scene depicting a Luftwaffe construction worker with shovel, an armed soldier, aircraft, and airfield imagery, with a 2nd Pattern Luftwaffe eagle below.
The central scene shows a construction worker at left holding the handle of a shovel and a soldier in a greatcoat at right holding a 98k rifle. In the background is an aircraft in flight together with another aircraft on the ground beneath protective netting, imagery directly connected with Luftwaffe airfield construction and operations. The lower right of the scene is signed:
FLG. H. BLÜHER
and a 2nd Pattern Luftwaffe eagle appears beneath the composition.
Across the upper portion of the plate is the inscription:
Alles für die Freiheit unſeres Deutſchen Volkes
approximately translating as “Everything for the freedom of our German people.” The quotation is attributed on the plate to Adolf H., although we have not been able to verify that he used this exact wording in a documented speech or published source.
Along the bottom is the designation:
LW-BAU-REGIMENT (HOLLAND)
identifying the plate as a commemorative piece associated with Luftwaffe construction units serving in Holland. Such units were responsible for the construction, expansion, and maintenance of airfields and other Luftwaffe infrastructure.
The entire design and inscription are executed in characteristic blue underglaze decoration on fine white porcelain. The reverse bears the crossed swords trademark of the Meissen porcelain manufactory. Two holes are present in the raised rear foot rim, and an old hanging cord remains installed for wall display.
Condition is very good overall. The plate shows visible checking and deterioration to portions of the glaze, along with areas where earlier repairs appear to have been made to small flaked sections of the surface. There are no major cracks, edge chips, or large structural losses noted.
With its Meissen manufacture, Luftwaffe construction regiment designation, detailed airfield scene, signed artwork, 2nd Pattern Luftwaffe eagle, and surviving hanging arrangement, this is a distinctive German WWII commemorative porcelain piece. The glaze checking, localized deterioration, and earlier surface repairs are all fully disclosed. It would display especially well in a Luftwaffe, Meissen porcelain, German military construction unit, airfield history, or advanced German WWII commemorative collection.
