Original German WWII Luftwaffe Barracks Candle Lantern - Dated 1939

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. A wonderful condition Luftwaffe Barracks Lantern (Leuchte). A silver painted, metal alloy lantern with a 7.5cm diameter, vented top, four original frosted glass panels with wire handle and hook. A small raised candle holder to the center of the lamp. The lamp measures approximately 5" x 5" x 11" tall. Each of the glass panels has two crossed wires to the exterior to protect the glass. The bottom has four raised feet as well as ventilation holes. The bottom is marked with a Luftwaffe eagle with FL UV which represents Flieger Unterkunft Verwaltung or Flight Barracks Administration along with W.K.G. and the date 1939. Overall condition is excellent, and notably all four frosted glass panels are original and undamaged which is rare.

 

According to the veteran's family from which that was acquired they found a lot of these lanterns at a Luftwaffe airfield that been overrun and surrendered. The vet was in one of the armored divisions in Pattons 3rd Army and brought one home to use in his cellar during stormy weather.
