  • Original Items: Only One Available. This is an actual Höhenmesser (altimeter) as used in German WWII Luftwaffe aircraft. It is made of black bakelite, and the face registers coarse altitude in kilometers from 0 to 10,000. The reverse still has the hose plug present, which is marked Statischer Druckausgleich (Static pressure equalization). This connected to a pressure tube conveying air from outside the plane.

The face is marked with the logo of maker R. Fuess of Berlin-Steglitz as well as Work Number W121690 and Luftwaffe number Fl 22320.

The two sliding markers along the perimeter of the scale are marked E (for QFE) and F (for QFF).  The E marker was set to the desired Decision Altitude or Minimum Descent Altitude, whereby upon decent, if the required visual reference (e.g. runway) is not detected by the pilot, he must initiate a missed approach procedure.  The F marker was set to the desired Acceleration Altitude, whereby the pilot would transition the aircraft from take-off speed to climb-out speed.

Condition is very good, and it is well-marked on the back with all of the manufacturer information, including a manufacturing date of 10.1.37. The glass is in great shape, and there is no damage of any type that we can see.

A great piece of German Luftwaffe material, ready to add to your collection!
