Item Description
Original Item. Only One Available. The MK 108 is a 30 mm caliber autocannon manufactured in Germany during World War II by Rheinmetall‑Borsig for use in aircraft. The weapon was developed as a private venture by the company in 1940 and was submitted to the Reichsluftfahrtministerium (RLM—Reich Aviation Ministry) in response to a 1942 requirement for a heavy aircraft weapon for use against the Allied heavy bombers appearing over German-controlled regions by then.
The MK 108 was quickly ordered into production and was installed in a variety of Luftwaffe fighter aircraft. It saw first operational service in summer 1943 with the Bf 110G-2 bomber destroyers and in the Bf 109G-6/U4.
Unloaded or dummy grenades, artillery shell casings, and similar devices, which are cut or drilled in an BATF-approved manner so that they cannot be used as ammunition components for destructive devices, are not considered NFA weapons. This example is in total compliance and is NOT AVAILABLE FOR EXPORT.
This is a great example of a 30mm aircraft round for the Mk108 cannon. It measures roughly 8¼” in overall length, and has some very oxidized markings on the body, but we could make out 45, indicating a 1945 manufacture date.
The bottom of the casing is stamped eey 44 115. The shell is in fair shape with some flaws but overall a great piece.
A great example, ready for further research and display.
