Original Item: Only One Available. Here we have a very nice tin plated German WWII Luftwaffe 16mm Film Container, which measures 7 1/8" wide by 1 1/8". It has a large embossed Luftwaffe eagle on the rear. It looks to have seen a good amount of use, and probably was re-used multiple times over the years. It has a label on the front indicating that it is a Schmalfilm-Positiv (Narrow Film Positive), titled Gebrauch der Gasplane gegen Phosphor und Brand, which translates to "Use of the gas tarpaulin against phosphorus and fire". We assume this is one of many Luftwaffe training / instructional films made during the Third Reich period.
There is a film reel inside, however we did check the beginning of the film, and it was swapped at some point with Reel III of Die Deutsche Westgrenze (The Western Front). This would have also been used as a training film, so the mixup is understandable. Also when the film was captured, it's unlikely that the USGI's checked to make sure that the film matched the case. The metal film reel is labeled EIGENTUM REICHSSTELLE FÜR DEN UNTERRICHTSFILM, or "Property of the National Office for Classroom Film".
Definitely some great research and display potential!
