Original Item. Only One Available. This is an extremely scarce original German WWII late-war “last ditch” grenade, complete with its original-style fuze and surviving fuze wings. The grenade is completely inert and is a particularly desirable non-dug example, showing honest age and handling rather than the severe corrosion typically encountered on excavated pieces.

Unloaded or dummy grenades, artillery shell casings, and similar devices, which are cut or drilled in an BATF-approved manner so that they cannot be used as ammunition components for destructive devices, are NOT considered NFA weapons. The grenade belongs to the simplified family of German late-war hand grenades produced as Germany’s military and industrial position deteriorated during the final stages of WWII. By 1944–1945, shortages of strategic materials, factory capacity, and transportation increasingly forced German ordnance production toward simplified designs that could be manufactured more quickly and with less material than earlier standard grenades.

The grenade is in great shape and is a non-dug example, rare to find. The fuze retains its wings, and is stamped on the top with dna / 4 for likely 1944 manufacture by Mettmanner Britanniawarenfabrik W. Seibel Mettmann/Rheinland. We aren’t entirely sure if a 4 indicates 1944 or something else.

Late-war German emergency grenades are particularly interesting because their simplified construction reflects the rapidly declining material and manufacturing resources available to the German war economy during the closing months of the conflict. Rather than the more elaborate construction seen on earlier standard hand grenades, these designs emphasized economy of material and ease of production.

This example is particularly noteworthy for its non-dug condition, complete fuze with surviving wings, and clearly stamped dna / 4 manufacturer marking identifying Mettmanner Britanniawarenfabrik W. Seibel. Its precise model designation and the exact significance of the numeral 4 warrant further research, but the surviving markings and construction make it a scarce representative example of German late-war emergency grenade production.
