  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice example of a German WWII Issue M31 canteen water bottle rig, in nice "salty" service used condition. Referred to in German as the Feldflasche Modell 1931 (Field bottle model 1931), these are usually found made of aluminum. However towards the end of the war, Aluminum, which was never plentiful in Germany, was in short supply, so the cups and later bottles were switched to steel, and coated with red enamel on the inside and outside, much like British canteens used during the war.

We looked all over this example, but there were no markings that we could find. It has the correct bakelite screw top cap, a genuine wool cover with working but oxidized snaps, and a bakelite cup. This is held together by the standard black leather belt harness, which has a steel belt hook on the back, for attaching to the combat rigging.

The top cap still has the sealing washer, though we cannot guarantee it still holds water. The Bakelite cup is not marked either.

All components are in great used condition, and do show wear and age. The canteen cover has very few flaws, but the snaps are a bit rusted on the interior, and great care should be taken when removing them. The leather carrier is still solid, the Bakelite cup is in fantastic condition, and this canteen would make an excellent part of any WWII German display!
