Original German WWII Kriegsmarine Navy Officer's M38 Overseas Cap with 32nd Minesweeper Flotilla Badge - Schiffchen

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice example of a German WWII Kriegsmarine Navy M38 Overseas cap (Schiffchen), as worn by Officers. The overseas cap, nicknamed in German military slang as Schiffchen, or literally "little ship" as it resembled an up-turned row-boat, was standard issue for the Junior Grade Navy officers for most occasions.

The cap is constructed of a navy blue light canvas exterior, and features fine hand embroidered bullion eagle and tri-color cockade emblems sewn to the front. It has gold bullion piping around the circumference, indicating officer issue. The interior is navy blue rayon, and is in excellent condition. There are no markings, so this was most likely a bespoke cap for the officer.

Attached to the left side of the cap is a wonderful 32. Minensuchflottille (32nd Minesweeper Flotilla) badge, which features an image of Mickey Mouse wearing boxing gloves, and punching a mine like a punching bag. These badges are extremely rare, and this is the first time we have seen this particular badge. For more information on the 32nd Minesweeper Flotilla, please see this website (in German): Flotilla 31-46.

Condition of the cap is excellent, with only minor wear from storage and oxidation. The color is retained quite well, with very little fading, and no staining. Ready to add to your collection!
