  • Original Item: Only One Available. Here we have a very interesting German WWII Flag, which we have not had before. It measures 59.1" x 98.4", or 150cm x 250cm, and is white with a printed red Genferkreuz (Geneva Cross), the symbol of the Red Cross / Medical personnel in WWII Europe, and much of the world today. This larger size indicates it would have been used on a sizable ship. The flag is made mostly of wool, which features corner reinforcements and additional stitching at the fly end to prevent tearing .It features a canvas header, with a nice 24" long halyard on the bottom, and a loop on the top.

This Naval Red Cross flag is totally original and is in very good lightly used condition, showing light wear from age and use. There is age toning to the white areas, and also some scattered staining overall. The wool body does not show any tears or other major damage, though there are some small holes and tears in areas consistent with moth damage, very common on these wool flags.

The flag is marked on the header with a black Eagle / M indicating German Kriegsmarine (Navy) acceptance. The header is also stamped with the correct naval designation and size number, along with the measurements:

    GenferFlg. 150 x 250 (WFT Logo)

This indicates that it is a 1.5m × 2.5m (150cm × 250cm) Genferflagge (Geneva Flag). The "WFT in a Triangle" logo is a known maker of flags during the WWII period, who has not been fully identified. We have however seen an attribution to Willy Forster Tuchfabrik (Cloth Factory). This size flag is an "7" (150x250cm), as noted in the Kriegsmarine Flaggenbuch (Navy Flag Book), which would be for a ship 500 to 1500 tons, unfortunately too large to be for a U-Boat. Ships in this displacement class would be D-E Torpedo boats, which are 900 tons.

We assume that flags such as these were used on a ship when they were working during a rescue operation or as a medical transport. We have not been able to find much information at all about these, but it is definitely original and period marked. This would definitely make a nice addition to any WWII German flag collection. Ready to display!
