Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice example of a WWII German Navy Kriegsmarine Küstenartillerie Offizier (Coastal Artillery Officer's) tan work uniform jacket. These were very similar to the field uniforms used across the various branches of the Wehrmacht, and it shows the typical high level of German tailoring. It is even still marked on the inner right chest, which looks to read W. L. G. / Wäsche / Frankfurt, over the numbers 43 and 108, which are probably size indicators, but could also be laundry numbers.
The officers Schulterstücken (Shoulder boards) of this tunic are constructed with two rows of fine silver flatware "Russia Braid" double piping and have the correct navy blue backing for the Kriegsmarine field uniforms. They are attached with bottom straps to loops on the top of the shoulders, and the other end attaches to the button on the uniform. There are no rank "pips", indicating an Leutnant zur See, a rank equivalent to a U.S. Navy Ensign. The right breast above the pocket is enriched with a gold metal breast eagle insignia pin held in place via two horizontally-aligned vertical loops in tan threading, with a third horizontal loop below which attaches to a hook on the bottom. There are also loops on both breast pockets where additional insignia and awards would have been displayed.
The front closes with five standard buttons, though only 4 are installed, as the top button was almost never used. All are proper Naval marked buttons, held in place by metal circlips on the back. There are four pockets on the front, one on each breast and larger ones at the waist on both sides, each designed with a decorative pleat and pebbled buttons, each of which is also maker marked and are held in place by rings on the underside and embedded in the pleat.
Condition is very good, showing only light wear, though the bottom of the right breast pocket has had about half of the stitching field repaired. There are also some wear areas on the shoulders and around the collar.
Overall a great condition Coastal Artillery Kriegsmarine Officers work uniform jacket, more than ready to display.
