This is an original German WWII Heer Army Panzer Pioneer Unteroffizier NCO shoulder board of the button-attached pattern, constructed from black wool with gray NCO Tresse and distinctive black piping interwoven with white thread. The board is backed with a canvas reinforcement strap running beneath both button holes and is associated with armored engineer personnel serving within Panzer formations.

The shoulder board is made from black wool fabric and has a sewn canvas attachment strap on the underside to reinforce the button holes. Around the outer edge is the branch piping, predominantly black with a repeating pattern of white threads woven into it. In this example, the pattern consists of approximately three white threads following six black threads, a construction associated with Panzer Pioneer units.

The edge is also bordered by gray NCO Tresse, which remains open at the shoulder end. This configuration identifies the junior NCO rank of Unteroffizier. This is the "subdued" pattern, used with combat engineer as well as reconnaissance troops to avoid detection, as the normal silver tresse was quite reflective.

German Panzer divisions included supporting engineer, artillery, signals, and other specialist units in addition to tank troops. Pioneer personnel assigned to armored formations could wear black uniform components associated with Panzer service, and shoulder boards of this type reflect that combination of black Panzer cloth with engineer branch identification.

This button-attached style with black wool construction was particularly suited to black Panzer uniform garments, including the wrap style service uniform. The present example appears to have seen only limited wear and shows no indication of prolonged installation on a uniform.

Condition is very good overall. There is light age toning and minor fraying along portions of the edge, but no major tears, holes, or structural damage. The black wool remains strong, the piping is intact, the NCO Tresse remains well preserved, and the underside reinforcement strap is complete.

With its black Panzer wool construction, black and white Pioneer piping, open ended NCO Tresse, button-attached configuration, and surviving reinforcement strap, this is a strong example of a German WWII Heer Panzer Pioneer Unteroffizier shoulder board. The minor edge fraying and light age toning are fully disclosed. It would fit especially well in a Panzer Pioneer, Heer NCO insignia, black Panzer uniform, combat engineer, or advanced German shoulder board collection.
