Original Item: Only One Available. Here we have a very nice Heer Artillery commemorative wall plaque, made from a wooden backing board measuring 4 1/4"W x 6 1/4"H, which has a lovely round 2 5/16" wide artillery scene silvered zinc alloy plate attached to the front. It shows two soldiers on the shielded carriage of what is probably a field howitzer, with one looking through the sight and another there to feed rounds into the gun. Both are wearing what look to be M16 Stahlhelm helmets, and the style of the carriage is definitely WWI. Many commemorative items like this from early WWII also have featured WWI imagery.
Below the round plaque is another in the form of a banner with the following inscription:
Kriegsweihnachten
Westfront
This translates to "Wartime Christmas on the Western Front", and below this is a shoulder strap with a 1939 date, flamed by oak leaf and acorn sprigs.
Condition is very good, with a lovely patina, showing some wear through on the plating applied to the central plate. There is also a hanger loop attached to the backing for display. Definitely an interesting piece of German WWII memorabilia!
