Original Item. Only One Available. Made from heavy burlap cloth, this is a German WWII Issue Army Ration Grain Sack, measuring approximately 43"H x 27"W when flat. A steady supply of food was vital to any fighting force, and sacks were the preferred way of transporting grain, which has not changed much since WWII. The bag has a large stenciled Wehrmachtadler (Armed forces eagle) on one side, while the other has a stencil identifying its correct usage and date of manufacture:
H. Vpfl.
1942
This is the German Abbreviation for Heeres Verpflegung, or "Army Rations".
Condition is very good, especially considering the age, with the expected staining and wear from use. There are some small tears and a twine stitched field repair. There are also some holes near the top, including one that is about 2 inches long.
A very interesting piece of German WWII militaria, ready to display!
