  • Original Item: Only One Available. The DAF (Deutsche Arbeitsfront or German Labor Front) was a National Socialist trade union that supplanted independent unions once the NSDAPs had come to power in Germany. This 46" x 56" fringed flag is constructed woven red wool, with cotton white and black DAF emblems on each side. The fringe is gold bullion and is relatively heavy.

The upper left corner of the flag has a 8" x 6" wool backed patch that reads:
    ffm.-
    Schwanheim
    2

Schwanheim is a town outside Frankfurt, Germany

The flag was captured and signed by dozens of USGIs. Many of the signatures are faded but we were able to transcribe some, they read as follows:

James P. Little - Bikhof Virgina
James C. Ludwick - Flint Michigan
    Tony Amendila - Pittsburgh P.A
Neal Blars - Morris Plains NJ
    Henry Cibzisz - Detroit Michigan
    J.P. Loomey - Detroir Michigan
    Arther Jones - Kentucky
    Carrol Newcoa - Kentucky
Gilbert L. Roger -Marion South Carolina
Paul A. Bunelt - Pittsford New York
    Neil Hedrick - Washington Indiana
    Cletus Walunsk - Indiana
    Walter Bravze - Detroit Michigan
    John Baldree - Adel California

Overall a wonderful condition flag, used for ceremonial purposes and captured by American soldiers during the final days of World War Two as the allied pushed into Germany. Fantastic research opportunity and incredible display piece!

With the dissolution of all Free Trade Unions in Germany in May 1933 the Deutsche Arbeitsfront, (German Labor Front), was established to replace the unions and to educate the workers in industry and commerce for smooth and efficient operation of all labor in the Third Reich. In October 1934 the DAF was given official status as a sub-section of the NSDAP and in March 1936 it was recognized as an independent NSDAP affiliated association and granted control of its own monetary budget. With this money it was able to procure it's own signs and other insignia.
