Original Item. Only One Available. This is a lovely signed illustrated portrait post card of the legendary German field commander, Generalfeldmarschall Erwin Rommel. It measures 9cm (3.54in.) by 14cm (5.51in.), the standard size used during WWII in Germany, and is signed Rommel across the bottom of the portrait, as well as on the reverse. We have examined the postcard thoroughly, and the color and type of paper used are definitely correct for the WWII Period. There is is information on the printer on the reverse, and the bottom of the front is marked in cursive script as follows:-
Generalfeldmarschall Erwin Rommel
„Unser Rommel“
The second line translates to "Our Rommel", and demonstrates how popular he was with the German public in general at the time.
We have also examined the signatures on the post card, and it is a definite match for that of Erwin Rommel, which is well-known and easily researchable. It looks to have been signed by some type of marker, and there are variations in the color due to how well it adhered to the front of the postcard. We see no reason to doubt that this signature is 100% correct and authentic.
A great chance to pick up a great signed portrait Postcard of "The Desert Fox", one of the most legendary field commanders of WWII, who would later be involved with 20 July Plot Unternehmen Walküre (Operation Valkyrie) assassination attempt of der führer. We have had very little Rommel material before, and it is highly sought after!
Johannes Erwin Eugen Rommel (15 November 1891 – 14 October 1944), known as The Desert Fox (Wüstenfuchs), was a German Generalfeldmarschall (field marshal) during World War II. He served in the Wehrmacht of National Socialist Germany, as well as in the Reichswehr of the Weimar Republic, and Imperial German Army of the German Empire. He had acquitted himself very well during the first world war, receiving the Pour le Mérite award, and would become one of the most well-known German field commanders during WWII. His book on Infantry Tactics was highly influential, and he was working on a similar book for Tank Tactics when he was forced to commit suicide following the attempted assassination of Adolf H. He was extremely well regarded by his contemporaries on both sides of the war, and was also very popular with the German people.
