  • Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. Wilhelm Emil Edmund Freiherr von Thermann was a German diplomat and SS-Brigadeführer. Thermann was a personal friend of the retired nationalist general Juan Bautista Molina. In July 1933, at the suggestion of Bernhard Wilhelm von Bülow, Thermann was sent to Argentina, where on August 3, 1933, he replaced Heinrich von Kaufmann-Asser , who had been dismissed because of his Jewish heritage. On April 1, 1933, Thermann joined the National Socialist Party (membership number 1,508,059) and applied for membership in the SS, in which Himmler personally promoted him to SS-Sturmführer (lieutenant) on September 3, 1933 (SS number 100,320). At that time, he was an obligatory rank leader in the SS Upper District North. Before his departure for Argentina, von Thermann paid a visit to the head of the Party/AO, Ernst Wilhelm Bohle. Thermann appeared in Argentina on December 10, 1933, in his SS uniform. At the end of 1933, Envoy First Class Thermann brought his letter of accreditation to the Casa Rosada in a carriage and wearing a bicorn hat. In December 1933, he attended Vicente Lopez's NSDAP/AO Jul solstice celebration in a suburb of Buenos Aires.

This is an interesting framed set including a Zeppelin ticket in Spanish with a Spanish government stamp, along with a postcard of a Zeppelin named Schwaben, although we don’t believe this to be the zeppelin associated with the ticket. In the bottom right of the frame is the calling card of Baron von Thermann, the German Ambassador to Argentina during the 1930s. There are several period articles online about his work there promoting the National Socialist party. A very interesting research project!

The frame is not currently mounted and will not hang on the wall. Additionally, some of the tighteners on the back are missing, so the interior pieces lean backwards if this is not laying flat. It could use a reframing or just mounting.
