This is a very appealing German WWII era Elastolin engineer assault boat display set, consisting of a camouflaged assault boat with rope detail around the exterior and two accompanying composition soldiers posed with oars. Elastolin military toys are highly collectible today because they preserve the visual language of German military playsets produced during the 1930s and wartime era, when companies such as Elastolin, Lineol, Märklin, Tippco, and Wiking offered an enormous range of soldiers, vehicles, artillery, boats, and battlefield accessories. This set is especially attractive because the boat retains its camouflage finish and is accompanied by two figures, one of which appears to have been specifically produced for this type of rowing display.

During the 1930s, German toy manufacturers produced large numbers of military figures and accessories intended to create elaborate miniature battlefield scenes. Elastolin became one of the best known makers, producing soldiers and equipment primarily from painted composite material before later transitioning increasingly to plastic.

These figures were manufactured in several different scales and represented not only German troops but also soldiers from other nations, allowing children and collectors to assemble surprisingly complex military displays.
