Original German WWII DRK Medic Pouch with Supplies from Sanitätslager Babelsberg - Deutsches Rotes Kreuz

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is an original WWII era black leather Deutsches Rotes Kreuz medic pouch. It is set up with belt loops and a rear ring for attachment to standard combat suspenders. This example is nicely stamped on the reverse with the location it was issued from:

D.R.K. Sanitätslager
Babelsberg 10

This roughly translates to German Red Cross Medical Camp Babelsberg, and this is probably pouch #10. Babelsberg is the largest district of Potsdam, the capital city of the German state of Brandenburg, in Eastern Germany.

The case shows some minor scuffing from wear and use, but is very good condition overall. Almost all of the original black finish is present. Also included are the original medical supplies including: Bandages, Gauze, and all in original wartime packaging. Some are labeled Verbandpäckchen (gauze bandage), while one inside a plastic bag is marked Wismut-Brandbinde (bismuth-brand tie). Even more interesting is that two pieces are specifically marked to a specific DRK camp with the logo, and it's the same one! One is marked to Sanitätslager Babelsberg 2, while the other boxed bandage is marked to Sanitätslager Potsdam - Babelsberg 2.  One of the bandages is also dated 1941. There's lots of research potential in this small pouch!

A very nice German WWII DRK Medic's field kit, ready to display!

History of the German Red Cross (DRK)

The DRK, "Deutsches Rotes Kreuz" (German Red Cross), a voluntary civil assistance organization originally instituted in 1864, was officially acknowledged by the Geneva Convention in 1929. In December 1937 it gained status

as a legally recognized organization by the NSDAP. As with other essential services in Third Reich Germany, it came under control of the NSDAP in late 1938 under the auspices of the Ministry of the Interior's Social Welfare Organization.
