Original Item: Only One Available. This is an especially desirable and remarkably complete example of the German NSDAP cigarette-card album Deutschland erwacht: Werden, Kampf und Sieg der NSDAP (“Germany Awakens: Formation, Struggle and Victory of the NSDAP”), published by the Cigaretten-Bilderdienst in 1933.
The album was originally sold with designated spaces for collectible photographic cards, which were acquired through the German cigarette-card collecting system and glued by the owner. This example is complete with all cards. The photographs were selected under the direction of Heinrich Hoffmann, H's official photographer, and accompany approximately 150 pages of text presenting the rise of the NSDAP through the highly controlled and propagandistic narrative promoted by the Party following its seizure of power in 1933.

This designation represents a very large printing block, approximately the 676,000th through 775,000th copies, illustrating just how widely such material was circulated. Bibliographic examples carrying this exact printing designation are dated 1933 and identify the publisher as the Cigaretten-Bilderdienst of Hamburg/Altona-Bahrenfeld.
Of particular historical interest, this is the later state of the album in which Ernst Röhm has been replaced by Viktor Lutze on page 52. Röhm, the powerful chief of staff of the SA, was arrested and executed during the June–July 1934 purge now known as the Night of the Long Knives. Following his death, his image and references to him were removed from later printings of Deutschland erwacht with Viktor Lutze, his successor as SA Stabschef, substituted in his place.
One of the most impressive features remains present at the rear: the enormous multi-panel photographic panorama depicting the 1933 consecration of Party standards at the Luitpoldhain in Nürnberg. When fully extended, the panorama measures approximately 12 inches high and more than four feet long, creating an extraordinary visual record of the staged mass spectacle of the 1933 Nürnberg Party Rally.
The hardcover volume measures approximately 9 ½” x 12 ½” x 1" and remains in very good overall condition. An exceptionally complete example of one of the known German cigarette-card albums of the Third Reich period.
