Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice original German WWII Deutsches Jungvolk (German Young People) Enameled Shooting Award Badge Pin, RZM Marked with M1/123 indicating it was manufactured by Petz & Koch of Unterreichenbach.

Hitler believed German youth to be the future of his 3rd Reich. The Hitler Youth (Hitler Jugend or HJ) was formed officially in 1935, and with the exception of Nazi ideology indoctrination was very similar to the Boy Scouts. Beginning at about the age of ten years, both boys (Hitler Jugend) and girls (Bund Deutscher Mädel) were enlisted in the Party-run organization. The The Deutsches Jungvolk (DJ) was the junior branch of the HJ, for boys aged 10 to 14.

Of Note: In late 1934 items manufactured for the NSDAP and other organizations, including membership pins, came under the quality control of the RZM, Reichzeugmeisterei, (National Equipment Quartermaster) and as a result were marked with the RZM logo when appropriate. The registry was was based at the Brown house in Munich and Nazi party headquarters in Berlin. The RZM ensured that the manufacturers of military items were consistent in design, quality of materials and other characteristics of the items. It also defined standards of design, manufacturing and quality and published an authoritative color chart for textiles. The M1 in the code stands for Metal Badges, with Petz & Koch of Unterreichenbach being contractor number 123.

This example is a standard issue shooting award, awarded to all youth who shows a proficiency in shooting. It is a 24mm diameter, die struck brass alloy badge with multi-colored enamel work. The design of the badge consists of a black enameled field with silver concentric circles representing a target. A pair of crossed rifles is placed in the center under the early HJ insignia: a single white "Sig" rune. The letters "D" and "J" are placed to each side of the rifles, and are also in white.

This example is in very good condition, with some intact plating on the back, while the front is worn away to the base metal. Overall good condition with good enamel, though there is some denting to the ends of the rifles The back has a very nice functional "safety pin" style attachment, which would work on any type of clothing.
