Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice original German WWII Deutsches Jungvolk (German Young People) Enameled Membership Badge Pin, RZM Marked with M1/129 indicating it was manufactured by Seiler & Comp. of Geldern.

Hitler believed German youth to be the future of his 3rd Reich. The Hitler Youth (Hitler Jugend or HJ) was formed officially in 1935, and with the exception of Nazi ideology indoctrination was very similar to the Boy Scouts. Beginning at about the age of ten years, both boys (Hitler Jugend) and girls (Bund Deutscher Mädel) were enlisted in the Party-run organization. The The Deutsches Jungvolk (DJ) was the junior branch of the HJ, for boys aged 10 to 14.

Of Note: In late 1934 items manufactured for the NSDAP and other organizations, including membership pins, came under the quality control of the RZM, Reichzeugmeisterei, (National Equipment Quartermaster) and as a result were marked with the RZM logo when appropriate. The registry was was based at the Brown house in Munich and Nazi party headquarters in Berlin. The RZM ensured that the manufacturers of military items were consistent in design, quality of materials and other characteristics of the items. It also defined standards of design, manufacturing and quality and published an authoritative color chart for textiles. The M1 in the code stands for Metal Badges, with Seiler & Comp. of Geldern being contractor number 129.

This example is a standard membership badge, given to all members. It is a 24mm diameter, die struck zinc alloy badge with multi-colored enamel work. The design of the badge consists of a black enameled with a silver Hakenkreuz (swastika), with the letters "D" and "J" on either side. A central red translucent enamel circle contains the early HJ insignia: a white "Sig" rune.

This example is in very good condition, with some intact plating on the back, while the front is mostly worn away to the base metal. Overall good condition with good enamel, though there is some denting and wear to the sides. The back has a very nice functional "safety pin" style attachment, which would work on any type of clothing.
