Original German WWII Deutsches Jungvolk DJ Enamel Membership Badge Pin by Overhoff & Cie. - RZM 24

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice original German WWII Deutsches Jungvolk (German Young People) Enameled Membership Badge Pin, RZM Marked with 24 indicating it was manufactured by Overhoff & Cie. of Lüdenscheid. This is an early RZM code, so it lacks the "M1" badge qualifier before 24. Once more types of items were added to the lists, each would have a license prefix.

AH believed German youth to be the future of his 3rd Reich. The HJ (AH Jugend or HJ) was formed officially in 1935, and with the exception of NSDAP ideology indoctrination was very similar to the Boy Scouts. Beginning at about the age of ten years, both boys (AH Jugend) and girls (Bund Deutscher Mädel) were enlisted in the Party-run organization. The The Deutsches Jungvolk (DJ) was the junior branch of the HJ, for boys aged 10 to 14.

Of Note: In late 1934 items manufactured for the NSDAP and other organizations, including membership pins, came under the quality control of the RZM, Reichzeugmeisterei, (National Equipment Quartermaster) and as a result were marked with the RZM logo when appropriate. The registry was was based at the Brown house in Munich and NSDAP party headquarters in Berlin. The RZM ensured that the manufacturers of military items were consistent in design, quality of materials and other characteristics of the items. It also defined standards of design, manufacturing and quality and published an authoritative color chart for textiles. The M1 in the code stands for Metal Badges, with Seiler & Comp. of Geldern being contractor number 129.

This example is a standard membership badge, given to all members. It is a 24mm diameter, die struck brass alloy badge with multi-colored enamel work. The design of the badge consists of a black enameled with a silver Swas (swas), with the letters "D" and "J" on either side. A central red translucent enamel circle contains the early HJ insignia: a white "Sig" rune.

This example is in very good condition, with lots of intact plating on the front and back of the badge pin. Overall good condition with intact enamel, though there is some wear to the sides. The back has a very nice functional "safety pin" style attachment, which would work on any type of clothing.
