  • Original Item. Only One Available. Der Stahlhelm, Bund der Frontsoldaten (The Steel Helmet, League of Front-Line Soldiers), commonly known as Der Stahlhelm or Stahlhelm BdF ('D.S. BdF'), was a revanchist ex-serviceman's association formed in Germany after the First World War. Dedicated to preserving the camaraderie and sacrifice of German frontline soldiers, it quickly evolved into a highly politicised force of ultranationalist resistance, opposed to the democratic values of the Weimar Republic.

This is a very scarce badge that we have never seen one of before, and one that is still causing debate among collectors. This badge depicts a German eagle sitting atop the Der Stahlhelm with the date 12.11.1933 over a lovely enamel 10. The debate comes from whether this badge was manufactured around 12.11.1933 to denote the 10 year anniversary of the Beer Hall Putsch, or around 1943 to commemorate the 10 year anniversary of the November 1933 German parliamentary election. From its construction, it appears much more as a 1933-manufactured badge.

The back of the badge is faintly stamp with maker’s mark:

    Apreck & Vrage

    Ges. Gesch.

There is a line with an address under the maker, but it is illegible. The pinback is still retained and is still functional. The badge measures 1½ x 2”.
