Original Item: Only One Available. This is very nice example of a Das deutſche Heer im Manöver (The German Army on Maneuvers) softcover "cigarette card" album. These books were originally purchased empty and customers would get a photograph with every purchase of a pack of cigarettes. These served the dual purpose of helping to stiffen the packaging, as well as being collectible items. It is approximately 79 pages long, softcover, and features 250 color "cigarette card" illustrations, glued to their correct locations on the various pages (a few have become detached but are included). This example is copyright 1936 by Cigaretten=Bilderdienſt (Cigarette Picture Service) of Dresden=A.. It measures approximately 8 1/8"W x 11 1/2"H x 1/2", and is offered in very good condition.
This is one of many collectible books released after the NSDAP rise to power in 1933, illustrates the wide range of roles undertaken by the various branches of the Heer Army. the NSDAP intended to fully re-arm, and that required getting the populace excited about joining the armed forces, regardless of age. These colorful books would be filled with the cards by adults, and then read by teen and children. We have never had this particular book before, but there were a wide range of different topics covered, keeping the printing industry quite busy.
Overall condition is very good, showing some wear around the edges, and as mentioned previously some of the cards have detached from their pages, which we have made no attempts to reattach. Ready to research and display!
