Original German WWII British Soldier Signed NSDAP Large National Flag Banner - 55" x 91"

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice signed British Soldiers' Bring back German WWII National Flag banner, in a nice large 55" x 91" size. It is made of lightweight fabric, with three hanging ties on one end, so we believe that it is a banner intended for indoor display, as it definitely does not have appropriate hardware or construction for outdoor use.

It is of multipiece construction and is double sided, with NSDAP swas (hook cross) insignia sewn onto each side. There is a small ink stamp in the corner, which is maker marked:

F G S
Unione Militare

This would suggest that the flag is of Italian manufacture, and possibly captured in Italy. There is another ink stamp that clearly states NAPOLI, so that further shows the Italian connection.

The most notable aspect of this banner is definitely the numerous names written on it between the arms of the hook cross, which unlike most examples we see, look to be British soldiers, and not American! They look to possibly be grouped together in different units/areas, though we cannot be sure. These are the names we can make out:

One grouping looks to read:

ARTTY
"BOB"
E.M. Munn
O'DHAM
E CARTNEL
NORTH WALES

Another grouping is a bit harder to read, but we think says:

C FOWLER
SUFFOLK
L. Norton
E.L. Davies
W. Hind
W.H. Jarvis Hall
H. Williams II <- LONDON
W. Layland
H. SIDDONS
J. STOBIE
AG STAGEE
JOLLY MORTON
BONNIE SCOTLAND

There is a small group with just one name, location, and unit, partly obscured by a stain:

H. A. Ganeter ??
7 A.T.W.
EASTBOURNE

The last and largest group is unfortunately quite hard to read, as it is written all in script, and the flag was definitely exposed to water at some point after being signed, which caused some of the ink to run. It definitely does say 7 ATW, the unit mentioned before, and some of the writing are definitely phrases and locations.

A fantastic genuine battlefield trophy signed by a group of British soldiers during the fall of the Third Reich in World War Two. A great display piece with lots of research potential!
