Original German WWII Austrian-Made Mountain Trooper’s Ice Pickaxe - Unit Marked - Gebirgsjäger Spitzhacke

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic service used condition World War Two "Aschenbrenner" style Führerpickel (guide pick) ice axe by the Austrian firm of Akadem Pickel F. Ralling, located in Fulpmes in the Austrian Alps. Also called the Gebirgsjäger Spitzhacke (Mountain Trooper Pickaxe), this example has a great regimental marking on both sides of the shaft, which reads as 10.J.R.19. This could be for the 10th Jäger Regiment, 10th Cyclist Jäger Brigade, or another unit. A Great research opportunity!
"Himalaya" Peter Aschenbrenner was a famous Austrian mountaineer of the time, and this ice axe was named after him. Aschenbrenner was a Heeresbergführer (Army Mountain Guide) with the Gebirgsjägers (Mountain Troopers) during the war. This model of ice axe is documented as having been used by the Gebirgsjägers.
This ice axe is offered in lovely service used condition, with a great patina that is simply impossible to duplicate. This is an axe that was "really there", used in the mountains during WWII. It measures 33 ¾" in overall length with a 11 ⅜” head. The head has a lovely lightly oxidized and worn look, and the bottom spike definitely shows some use as well. The AKADEM PICKEL / F. RALLING FULPMES logo is faintly marked on the head, with the serial number B715 stamped inside the marking.
The wooden shaft of the pickaxe is marked on both sides with the regimental marking, 10.J.R.19. The shaft is also stamped with an M on one side. Condition overall is very nice, showing long use in service. The metal components are worn and a bit patinated, but still in serviceable condition.
