Original German WWII 98k Rifle Schießbecher Anti-Personnel Grenade Round dated 1944 - Inert

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. Totally inert per guidelines provided by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) this is a rare German WW2 30mm Anti-Personnel rifle grenade known as a Gewehr Spreng Granat 30 round, offered in very good condition. The steel boy is painted yellow and features a spring-loaded bakelite fuse and screw off bakelite base.

The top of the fuse is dated 1944 over maker code jmh, for Keinrich Kopp, Inh. Theodor Simoneit, located on Sonneberg in Thüringen. This maker of electrical equipment was purposed with making fuzes during the war. The inside of the bakelite base is also marked with the same maker code, and a date of 1 44, for January 1944.

The side of the top housing has additional markings: AZ5071 S  wa 1387 44, so the housing itself may have been made by Hugo Schneider.

The yellow painted body is in very good condition, with along all of the original yellow paint still present. It even has a black inspection stamp with a Reichsadler inside.

The grenade would be used with a propellant cartridge and Schießbecher (shooting cup) grenade launcher to direct the projectile. Unlike many grenade launchers, the German launcher had a short rifled barrel with a caliber of 30 mm, which engaged the rifling ridges on the bottom of the bakelite grenade housing. The spin was thought to result in a more regular trajectory.

Overall a very nice complete Gewehr Spreng Granat 30 round, well marked and ready to display!
