Original Item: Only One Available. Totally inert per guidelines provided by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) this is a wonderful display cutaway made from a German WWII 30mm Anti-Personnel rifle grenade. These were officially known as a Gewehr Spreng Granat 30 round, and this cutaway is offered in very good condition. The steel body is painted yellow and features a bakelite fuse and bakelite base, which are removable. The internal structures are all cut away as well, and have been painted on the cutaway side to aid in identification. The explosive charge has been removed, and the side was repainted with restored markings.

When it comes to designing a training program for military personnel, instructors are faced with several challenges. First, unlike athletes there is no off-season, most units are either preparing for deployment, deployed, or refitting from deployment. Secondly, training facilities vary from location to location and often focus on a single task. These tasks may include muscular strength, cardiovascular endurance, field craft or marksmanship. Each of the above contribute to the success of an operation, however there is one area of training that is deficient. This deficiency is visual training; visual ability plays a larger role in achieving optimum performance than most military personnel realize. The goal of integrating visual training into an already packed curriculum is not to dilute it but to improve tactical performance.
To help users better understand the equipment they are using, examples like this cutaway were made. These were intended to give the users a look at the internal structure of the explosives, showing the different layers as well as where they connect or thread into each other.
The cutaway allows the entire firing mechanism to be seen, and was probably used in presentations or as a training aid. The side is marked 44 auz 177 in replicated markings, and the yellow paint is added. It now makes a lovely display piece, and would be a great centerpiece to any WWII ordnance collection.
The grenade would be used with a propellant cartridge and Schießbecher (shooting cup) grenade launcher to direct the projectile. Unlike many grenade launchers, the German launcher had a short rifled barrel with a caliber of 30 mm, which engaged the rifling ridges on the bottom of the bakelite grenade housing. The spin was thought to result in a more regular trajectory.
