This is an original German WWII right side Waffen-SS collar tab for the 23rd SS-Freiwilligen-Panzergrenadier-Division “Nederland” (Niederländische Nr. 1), constructed with a silver gray machine embroidered Wolfsangel emblem on black badge cloth over tan lacquered buckram. The tab shows no visible evidence of ever having been sewn to a uniform and remains in excellent, apparently unissued condition.

The Waffen-SS incorporated formations composed of German personnel as well as foreign volunteers and conscripts from occupied and allied territories. The 23rd SS-Freiwilligen-Panzergrenadier-Division “Nederland” was formed largely from Dutch personnel, and the Wolfsangel emblem became one of the identifying symbols associated with its insignia.

The tab measures approximately 1 9/16" x 2 1/2". The Wolfsangel is neatly machine embroidered in silver gray synthetic thread with virtually no age toning. The black badge cloth has been folded around a tan lacquered buckram backing, with the folded edges secured on the reverse by white machine stitching.

This construction style is often associated by collectors with stocks of insignia recovered from warehouses at the Dachau camp complex after the war, though no specific documented recovery history accompanies this individual tab.

Condition is excellent. There are no visible stitch holes, stains, tears, or areas of fabric loss, and no indication that the tab was ever mounted to a uniform collar. The embroidery remains crisp, the buckram retains its shape, and the reverse stitching is intact.

With its silver gray Wolfsangel embroidery, black badge cloth construction, lacquered buckram backing, clean reverse stitching, and apparently unissued condition, this is a strong example of a 23rd SS “Nederland” right collar tab. It would display especially well in a Waffen-SS foreign volunteer insignia, Dutch volunteer, “Nederland” Division, collar tab, or advanced German WWII cloth insignia collection.
