Purpose: In order to navigate, the angle between the longitudinal axis of the aircraft and that of a fixed star, such as for example, was needed. Sirius or the moon and the azimuth = angle of the height of the star, and a lot of tables as well as the exact clock time. To measure the angle between the longitudinal axis and the star position, use the "star-shaped disk". This was usually used in a dome over the fuselage of the aircraft (eg in large aircraft, across the Atlantic)
