  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice 1936 Metropolitan Police Officer's pattern Tschako, with the late pattern police green wool body and black leather trim. This replaced the original all leather style used up until that point. It has a very fine quality police officer eagle aluminum wappen (front plate) a black leather chinstrap around the "pickelhaube" style lugs. The Feldzeichen cockade is unfortunately missing, as they often are.

A great Polizei helmet (shako) as used by the metropolitan police! Unlike some of the more common ones found trimmed in brown for rural police, this tschako would have been used by the Ordnungspolizei (Order Police), the Schutzpolizei (Protection Police), or the Gemeindepolizei (Local Municipal Police), personnel.

The interior is in very good condition, with a supple leather liner that shows moderate age and use. The leather top tie string is still present, and there are no cracks, tears, or other damage to the liner. It still bears a complete maker decal on the top of the crown, which shows light wear:

    HANS RÖMER
    Echt
    Fiber-Tschako
    56
    Neu-Ulm (Donau)

We also checked on the under side of the liner, and there is a 1939 date stamped on one side, along with Po / 1940 on the other, which could indicate issue to the Schutzpolizei in the German City of Potsdam, which is exactly the type of location it would have been used in.

The vents are present and in good condition, and both sliding covers are present and move easily. The police field green felt exterior is in very good shape, showing overall light wear and staining, as well as some areas of dirt. The leather trim is in good shape, with a nice lightly worn look, showing some checking in the black leather finish due to age. The front and rear vulcanfibre visors have a lovely pattern of checking and crazing in the finish, though they are both a bit deformed from age. The chin strap is in good shape, with the leather showing cracking due to age, and is in delicate condition.

Overall it is offered in very nice condition from one of Germany's best manufactures of the time. Ready to research and display!
