Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very nice example of a German WWII 1939 Clasp to the 1914 Iron Cross 1st Class, known in German as the Spange zum Eisernen Kreuz 1. Klasse 1914 or Wiederholungsspange (Repeat Clasp). This distinctive decoration was intended for a recipient who had already earned the Iron Cross 1st Class during WWI and subsequently qualified for the same class of the Iron Cross following its reinstitution in 1939. Rather than receiving and wearing a second Iron Cross alongside the 1914 decoration, the veteran wore this special 1939 clasp above his original WWI cross.

The clasp features the characteristic spread-winged German national eagle above an oak-leaf wreath enclosing a swas., with a separate projecting tablet below bearing the raised date 1939. The design was immediately recognizable when worn above the 1914 Iron Cross and distinguished veterans whose military service and decorations extended across both World Wars.

This example appears to be constructed from silvered zinc alloy and retains a considerable amount of its original finish, with expected age-related oxidation and scattered finish loss concentrated mainly along the raised details and outer edges. The reverse is plain and fitted with a vertical pinback assembly, consisting of a barrel-style hinge beneath the eagle's head and a corresponding catch near the lower edge. Both the pin and catch remain intact and present. No manufacturer marking is visible on the reverse.
