Item Description
Original Item. Only One Available. The NSDAP, or Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (National Socialist German Worker’s Party), was originally founded in Munich as the DAP, or Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (German Worker’s Party), on January 5 1919. When Adolf joined the DAP in the autumn of 1919 he was to reform what was basically a debating society into an active political party. Appointed as the first chairman of the party on July 29TH 1921 he was to restructure it along para-military lines in a hierarchy of four levels of government.
During the next decade, the NSDAP gradually grew in power, and on January 30, 1933 Reichspräsident Paul von Hindenburg appointed Adolf H as Reichskanzler (Chancellor of Germany), after which he quickly consolidated power to become a true dictator. January 30th would later become a national holiday called "Empowerment Day", and Adolf H would gave several annual addresses to the Reichstag on that day. These occurred in 1937 and 1939, and were called the Reichstagsreden (Reichstag Speeches), which detailed his plans for the future of the Third Reich. After 1939 these annual speeches took place in the larger Berlin Sportpalast until 1942. when they ceased until 1945, when the last speech was radio broadcast from the Reichskanzlei.
What we have here is a fantastic item the likes of which we have not had previously! This is a period 5 3/8" by 3 3/8" photograph postcard showing Der Führer Adolf H riding in the front passenger seat of his Mercedes-Benz 770 state car, complete with his personal standard plate visible on the front right of the car. Uniformed soldiers can be seen in the background, and the lower left corner of the postcard bears the signature of Adolf H over Berlin 1937.
The rear of the post card it has the following information regarding the picture:
Der Führer.
Fotografie von
J. Schert
Berlin 30. 1. 1937.
This would indicate that Der Führer was almost certainly on his way to or from his Reichstag Speech on January 30, 1937, which dealt with foreign policy, as well as detailing the 4 year anniversary of the NSDAP takeover.
We have examined the postcard thoroughly, and the color, type of paper used, and the type of photographic process used, which produces a metallic sheen in areas, are indisputably correct for the WWII Period. We have also examined the signature on the front of the post card, and it is a definite match for that of Der Führer Adolf H, which is well-known and easily researchable. It was definitely made using black ink from a fountain pen, and we can see the individual strokes as well as variations in pressure, which would not be produced by any type of autopen device. Some parts are shinier than others due to more ink being left on the surface, which allowed it to dry flat and not textured from the photograph. We see no reason to doubt that this signature is 100% correct and authentic.
We have attempted to take pictures from multiple angles in order to show the signature on the surface of the postcard, which is unfortunately not easy with flash photography. This is an item the likes of which we are very unlikely to see again in the future. A truly unique signed and dated period photograph of Der Führer of the so-called "Third Reich", ready to research and display!
