Original Item. Only One Available. This is an outstanding unit-marked example of the Bavarian M1813 Artillery Saber. The 1813 model was carried first by Hussar units during the Napoleonic Wars and later given to artillery and ammo regiments.
This example is stamped on the ricasso:
W.R. KIRSCHBAUM
SOLINGEN
This denotes manufacture by Wilhelm Reinhardt Kirschbaum of Solingen, one of the most famous blade makers in German history.
The top of the crossguard has a myriad of stamped and removed unit markings, but the current markings appear to read 3. A.F. 7.10. This would denote the 3rd Regiment of Foot Artillery, 7th Battery, 10th Man. These same stamped markings can be found on the throat of the scabbard, making this a great matching unit-marked set. However, they were not always together, as each has a serial number, 2996 on the sword, and 1122 on the scabbard. So these saw use before being unit-marked.
The blade measures 29 ⅜” and is in great shape with a still-bright finish. The overall length is 35 ¼”. The blade has been sharpened a bit. The leather of the grip is in great shape with some wear.
The scabbard measures 31 ½” and shows moderate wear with minor denting. The suspension ring is retained and in good shape.
A very scarce Bavarian saber, ready for display.
Dimensions:
Blade length: 29 3/8”
