Original Item: Only One Available. German WWI Ersatz bayonets with their original 12" blades are very hard to find today. Many were officially shortened to 10" and sent to to Turkey as aid during WWI, but this example escaped that fate. The classic work by J.ANTHONY CARTER, GERMAN BAYONETS, VOLUME THREE published in 1992 is the complete work covering all types of WWI Ersatz bayonets and cherished by bayonet collectors everywhere.
Anthony Carter's Reference EB5 appearing in Volume 3 is the model we offer here. It features a heavy smooth bent steel hilt with split muzzle ring and a two-piece crossguard marked 5784. It has a 12-inch un-fullered blade, which bears a faint imperial proof on the spine. The primary difference between the EB3/EB4 and the EB5 is that the EB5 did away with the fuller completely. Overall length is 16 3/4 inches and it comes complete with a correct all steel “faux-leather” blued scabbard, which is unmarked. This style of scabbard mimicked the early leather 1898/05 bayonet scabbards. Both are in very good condition.
J. Anthony Carter died in 2001 but his four volume work is acknowledged as the supreme reference work on the subject most especially the Ersatz Volume (No.3) which was his great passion throughout his lifetime.
