Original German WWI Steel Hilt 12" Blade Ersatz Bayonet with Scabbard - Carter Type EB3

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. German WWI Ersatz bayonets with their original 12" blades are very hard to find today. Many were officially shortened to 10" and sent to to Turkey as aid during WWI, but this example escaped that fate. The classic work by J.ANTHONY CARTER, GERMAN BAYONETS, VOLUME THREE published in 1992 is the complete work covering all types of WWI Ersatz bayonets and cherished by bayonet collectors everywhere.

Anthony Carter's Reference EB3 appearing on Pages 18-19 is the model we offer here. It features a heavy smooth bent steel hilt with split muzzle ring and a single piece crossguard marked 2881. It has a 12 1/4 inch fullered blade, which bears a faint imperial proof on the spine. Overall length is 17 1/8 inches and it comes complete with a correct all steel blued scabbard, which is unmarked. Both are in very good condition, with a lot of the original green paint still present on the hilt, and almost all of the blued finish on the scabbard intact.

J. Anthony Carter died in 2001 but his four volume work is acknowledged as the supreme reference work on the subject most especially the Ersatz Volume (No.3) which was his great passion throughout his lifetime.

A very nice Ersatz Bayonet Type EB3 in great shape, complete with scabbard ready to add to your collection!
