Original Item: Only One Available. This is a totally inert BATF compliant genuine WWI grenade which has had roughly 1/5th of the body cut away to show the interior construction. The Eierhandgranate ("egg hand grenade") is the name given to a model of a hand thrown fragmentation grenade manufactured in Germany, also known as Mod. 1917. A similar grenade called the Model 39 grenade was later introduced by Germany and used in World War II.
Unloaded or dummy grenades, artillery shell casings, and similar devices, which are cut or drilled in an BATF-approved manner so that they cannot be used as ammunition components for destructive devices, are not considered NFA weapons. This example is in total compliance and is NOT AVAILABLE FOR EXPORT.
This is a nice inert cutaway example of the second type, called the Eierhandgranate M1917 Neuer Art (Egg Hand grenade New Model), with the raised central fragmentation band. It is in non-dug condition, and does not appear to have been repainted to mimic the original black painted finish long ago. The original zinc and steel M1915 traction ignition is present, but the pull igniter is long gone. The fuze cannot be unscrewed anymore as the threading appears heavily damaged. The bottom of the grenade body has some stamped markings which are hard to read due to the cutaway.
This grenade has roughly 1/5th of the body cutaway to show the interior construction. This was done long after the war, and it appears much of the interior was filled with black resin or epoxy, while the fuze was not cutaway at all. It will look great in any grenade display.
A perfect chance to complete your WWI ordnance collection with a hard to find German grenade!
