  • Original Item: Only One Available. In use for centuries, the German Hirschfänger (Deer Catcher) long hunting daggers have always made lovely display pieces, as well as military sidearms. Many of the early bayonets used by the various German States were based on the Hirschfänger design, which is both simple and elegant, almost a short sword in practical terms.

This is a heavily worn WWI Era Hirschfänger style long dress cutlass, possibly also intended for field use. It has a lovely 25¼” blade with lovely etchings of hunting motifs & animals. There is not much wear to the blade minus some oxidation spotting near the tip. The ricasso is marked P. K. but we have been unable to identify this maker.

The fittings are all brass, not the German Silver often used. The knife is fitted with a straight fluted wooden grip which was originally affixed with three circular bosses on each side, but now there is only one circular boss left on one side. The scallop shell guard is a bit loose, as is the pommel. The scabbard is gone, but the blade is in great overall shape despite this.

A fair but rough German Hirschfänger, ready to restore or display!
