Original Item: Only One Available. This is a 13" x 18 1/2" framed display consisting of a 1935 Nationalsozialistische Kriegsopferversorgung (NSKOV) document concerning the employment of a severely war-disabled veteran, together with an original NSKOV membership badge mounted beneath it. The document was issued by the NSKOV local organization at Bad Freienwalde/Oder, within Bezirk Potsdam (21), and is dated April 7, 1935. It concerns a man specifically named in the document as Wilhelm Blessin and was addressed to the Reichsbahndirektion in Stettin, the regional Reichsbahn railway directorate at Stettin. A potentially corresponding postwar memorial record exists for a Wilhelm Blessin, born February 3, 1886 and deceased May 29, 1945, though the available information is not sufficient to confirm that this is the same individual.
The Nationalsozialistische Kriegsopferversorgung, generally translated as National Socialist War Victims' Welfare or War Victims' Care, was an NSDAP-affiliated organization concerned with the welfare of war-disabled veterans. Founded in 1930, it became increasingly important after 1933 as other organizations serving similar groups were brought within the National Socialist system. One of its practical functions was assisting war-disabled men with welfare and employment matters. This document provides a particularly direct example of that activity, as the Bad Freienwalde organization was writing to the Reichsbahn on Blessin's behalf to inquire whether he was receiving due consideration for employment.
The upper left of the document bears the printed NSKOV emblem, consisting of an upright sword, Iron Cross, central swas., and surrounding oak leaves. The letterhead identifies:
National-Sozialistische Kriegsopferversorgung
Bezirk Potsdam (21)
Bad Freienwalde/Oder
The document is recorded as Tagebuch Nr. 319/35. At the upper right, it is dated:
Freienwalde, den 7. April 1935
It is addressed:
An die
Reichsbahndirektion
in Stettin
Translated: “To the Reich Railway Directorate in Stettin.”
An official rectangular Reichsbahn receiving stamp records its arrival the following day.
The clearly legible typed body of the letter reads:
In der Interessenwahrung unseres Kameraden,
Wilhelm Blessin, Bad Freienwalde Oder, Wärterhaus
gestatten wir uns nachstehendes zu unterbreiten.
Wir bitten höflichst um Auskunft, ob bei den in Frage
kommenden Anstellungswärtern unser Schwerkriegsbeschädigte
B. gebührend berücksichtigt wird.
Einer gütigen Antwort sehen wir gern entgegen.
Heil H.!
[Signature]
Ortsgruppenamtsleiter
The word “Anstellungswärtern” is transcribed exactly as typed on the document. In context, it appears to be a period typographical or clerical error, most likely for “Anstellungsanwärtern,” meaning applicants or candidates for appointment. It has not been silently corrected in the transcription.
A translation of the text is:
In safeguarding the interests of our comrade,
Wilhelm Blessin, Bad Freienwalde/Oder, Wärterhaus,
we take the liberty of submitting the following.
We respectfully request information as to whether, among those being considered for appointment, our severely war-disabled B. [Blessin] is being given due consideration.
We would be pleased to receive your kind reply.
Heil H.!

Local Group Office Leader
Blessin is specifically described as a “Schwerkriegsbeschädigte,” identifying him as a severely war-disabled man. Given the April 1935 date, this terminology places the document squarely within the interwar system of assistance and employment consideration for men disabled through wartime service. The document does not state whether Blessin ultimately received the position.
At the bottom is a strong blue circular organizational stamp reading around the perimeter:
Nationalsozialistische Kriegsopferversorgung e.V.
Ortsgr. Bad Freienwalde/Oder
The NSKOV emblem appears at center. The letter is also signed in red ink above the printed title Ortsgruppenamtsleiter. The signature itself is highly stylized and has not been identified by name, as a completely reliable reading cannot be made from the available view.
There are also several period handwritten administrative notations in black and blue pencil or ink. These appear to be Reichsbahn filing, routing, or processing notes associated with the letter after its receipt. Some portions are written in difficult German cursive and cannot presently be transcribed with sufficient certainty, so they have intentionally not been expanded or interpreted here. Their presence nevertheless adds to the document's period administrative character.
Mounted beneath the letter is an NSKOV membership badge, displaying the same basic organizational symbolism seen in the printed letterhead and official stamp: an upright sword combined with an Iron Cross and central swas. within an oval oak-leaf wreath.
This is an informative NSKOV display because the surviving letter records the organization directly intervening with the German Reichsbahn on behalf of a named severely war-disabled veteran in an employment matter, providing a tangible example of one of the functions performed by the NSKOV during the early Third Reich period.
