Original Item: Only one Available. It is really unusual to find a Spanish-contract Mauser Model 1893 Rifle in such nice condition as this. This model rifle, like most of the famous Mauser rifles, was designed by Paul Mauser himself, and is chambered in 7×57mm Mauser. While almost always referred to as the "Spanish Mauser", this design was also marketed to various other governments worldwide.
This example was manufactured by Ludwig Loewe of Berlin, and is marked as such on the side of the receiver:
MAUSER ESPAÑOL MODELO 1893
MANUFACTURA LOEWE BERLIN.
Ludwig Loewe (1837 – 1886) was an industrialist and philanthropist in Germany, and owned various companies, including arms producer Ludwig Loewe & Company. The company itself also held controlling interest in several other arms companies, including Waffenfabrik Mauser. After Ludwig passed away in 1886, his brother Isidor ran the company.
In 1896, Ludwig Loewe & Cie obtained a majority interest in the Karlsruhe-based Deutsche Metallpatronenfabrik. In the same year, it was decided to merge the ammunition production of Deutsche Metallpatronenfabrik with Loewe's firearms branch in Berlin, creating a new company of which Loewe remained the owner: Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken (DWM).
As this rifle is still marked Loewe, it was produced prior to this change, and it is indeed faintly marked BERLIN 1896 on top of the chamber, directly under a faint Spanish Royal coat of arms. It is also marked with serial number F5033 on the side of the chamber. The same number is stamped onto the bolt handle and the magazine housing in front of the floor plate. This definitely looks to be a very nice "All Matching" example, and it is a great one, complete with an original bayonet and sling!
The rifle is in great condition, with lots of the original finish retained on the metalwork, even a lot of the "niter blued" finish on the bolt release, magazine follower, and the rear sight. The stock is equally great, with only some minor scratches and dents, as shown. Overall it has a great color, with lots of grain, and even original milling marks visible in places.
The rifle cycles nicely, and does not appear to have any mechanical issues. The magazine follower correctly pops up to obstruct the bolt when the magazine is empty, making sure that the soldier would remember to load a new stripper clip into the internal magazine. The bore is in very good condition, with a bright finish and clear lands and grooves. There is just a bit of rounding on the lands. The cleaning rod unfortunately as missing, as they often are.
The included bayonet is the correct M1893 Spanish production, marked ARTILLERIA F'ca DE TOLEDO 1901., for 1901 manufacture at the Toledo Artillery Factory, the main manufacturer of Spanish military edged weapons of the period. It has some wear, but is still in the original issued configuration. It comes complete with an all leather scabbard, riveted into a leather belt frog. The bayonet fits the rifle well, and locks into place correctly.
The included sling is in good condition, and is the correct style of sling for this rifle, so we based on the condition we believe it to be original to the rifle. These slings are very hard to find, and this is the only example we have had with an original sling.
A great example of the Model 1893 Mauser, still in the original configuration and complete with a bayonet and sling. Ready to display!
