Original Item: Only One Available. Bayonets of this rare type were released in 1976 by the Egyptian Ministry of the Interior, included in a mass of Remington Rolling Block Contract Rifles and Martini Enfield Carbines. In Egypt, to keep bayonets in service, the earlier 1869 Remington bayonets were modified by the installation of a steel replacement cross guard without the traditional hook quillon. This example appears unconverted.
This bayonet is quite impressive, about 27 3/8 inches long with a 22 5/8 inch "Yataghan" style saber blade, with a wide fuller on each side. The ricasso of the blade is marked with the scales and the “A.C.” trademark of the Alexander Coppel firm. This company made large amounts of export bayonets during the 19th century, and also manufactured bayonets for many years and up through WWII under the name Alcoso. The other side of the ricasso is stamped with a C in a circle, likely a proof stamp. There are some Egyptian stamps at the pommel side.
The catch works well and the bayonet is in excellent condition overall. It comes in its original steel scabbard with a hanging loop on the throat. The scabbard is stamped G48711 on one side.
An excellent and scarce bayonet, ready for display.
