  • Original Item: One-of-a-kind. This is an original cut-out section of a German WWII “Sitzfallshirm” or “Seat Parachute”. These were used most often by fighter pilots and bomber crews. This particular example is made up of sections 1 through 3 out of 28(all German Parachutes numbered every section), and retains its original inspection stamps with multiple 1941 dates on section #1. It is constructed of white silk and is offered in excellent condition. An entire parachute was quite large, so often soldiers would cut out the section with the markings as a memento.

Included with this Fallschirm section is the original cardboard "send home" box. The outside of the box on both sides reads in bold lettering:

    OVERSEAS SHIPPER
THIS BOX TO BE USED ONLY FOR SENDING
MERCHANDISE TO THE ARMED FORCES OUT-
    SIDE OF THE UNITED STATES

The box is dated on the bottom 10-44 (October 1944). It is addressed to:

    M/SGT. JOHN RYLE JR. 32166152
    HQ. 17TH AAA GROUP
    APO 654 C/O POST MASTER
    NEW YORK N.Y.

Research has revealed that John Ryle Jr enlisted on July 30th, 1941 in Trenton, New Jersey.

Overall a really neat set of a very nice Luftwaffe seat parachute section in a genuine send home box to a known soldier. Ready to display!
