  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic German made example of a "Combination Gun", which is double barrel gun where one side is a rifle, and the other a shotgun. This way the hunter would be prepared for both flying and running game. It is mostly iron mounted, with some simple line engraving around the edges. The gun has an intricate trigger guard of iron with a carved horn "grip" behind it. The lever for opening the breech is also carved horn, and looks great! There is even a fold up "peep sight" on the tang of the barrel for very accurate shooting. Definitely a very high level of craftsmanship went into this combo gun.

The double barrels are 27 3/4" in length, with the left side being a .67" / 16 bore shotgun and the right side a .43" rifle. The barrels also look to be of different manufacture methods, as the left side shotgun is "Damascus" twist steel, while the right barrel is marked GUSS-STAHL, for "Cast Steel. The gun measure 43 1/2" in overall length. The lovely walnut stock houses twin back action hammer locks, which are unmarked. The barrel rib is marked with the makers name and location:

    F. NEUMEYER   FREISING

Freising is a town in Bavaria, Germany, which still exists today. We unfortunately have not been able to find anything on the listed maker, so this was most likely a bespoke item from an independent maker.

The stock has a lovely cheek piece on the left side, with checkering on the wrist bordered by foliate engraving. It looks to be made from beautiful fully figured walnut, and is of exceptional quality. There is also a checkered fore stock above the horn breech lever.

The locks both are still functional, though the left side (shotgun) can be made to fire at half cock. The rifle side has a "set trigger" for a very light pull, but it is currently out of adjustment. The right side firing pin is also broken internally, and can get stuck in the forward position if dry fired.

For hunting in the forests of Germany during the late 19th century, this was definitely the gun to have! This would make a magnificent wall display.

A truly great example, ready to display!
