Original Item: Only One Available. This is an attractive original French WWII Model 1926 Adrian helmet fitted with a period French Air Force RF winged star badge. The shell retains portions of its original olive green finish and has a strong, untouched service appearance, while the original chinstrap remains present across the front brim. The combination of the distinctive Air Force insignia, surviving original paint, and complete profile makes this a particularly appealing example of French wartime headgear.

The winged star emblem identifies the helmet with the French Air Force and gives it considerably more visual and historical interest than an unbadged Adrian shell.

The steel shell remains in very good overall condition. Portions of the original olive green paint survive across the exterior, together with scattered finish loss, wear, and age related patina. These areas of wear give the helmet considerable character and are consistent with an original service used example.

The original leather chinstrap remains attached but has contracted with age and is now stretched tightly across the front brim. The leather should be handled carefully, as attempting to move or straighten it may cause further damage.

The currently installed liner may be a later replacement. The attachment grommets appear unusually fresh, although it is also possible that they have simply survived in exceptionally good condition. Without additional evidence, the liner should not be represented definitively as original to the helmet.

The original Model 1915 Adrian helmet was introduced during WWI in response to the severe number of head wounds caused by artillery fragments and falling debris. It became the first modern steel helmet issued on a large scale to the French Army and established a distinctive design that was later adopted or copied by numerous countries.

In 1926, the Adrian pattern was strengthened and simplified. The main shell was stamped from a single piece of steel, eliminating the separate joining rim used on the earlier Model 1915. The large ventilation opening beneath the comb was also replaced with a series of smaller holes, reducing a recognized weak point in the earlier construction.

The Model 1926 remained in French service through the interwar period and into WWII. Variations were worn by different branches of the French armed forces, with branch specific badges fitted to the front of the shell. The winged star insignia on this example identifies it with French aviation service.

Adrian pattern helmets remained influential well beyond France. Related forms were used by military, police, firefighting, railway, and civil defense organizations in many countries. The raised comb and broad brim remain among the most recognizable features of early European steel helmet design.
