The 37 mm Infantry Gun Model 1917 was a light artillery piece produced in the United States during World War I for the French Army. It was adopted by the US Army when it entered the war on the side of the Allies.
The two included are in good shape with Model of 1916 markings on the bottom. Neither of the U.S. examples are trench art, but both retain their projectiles.
The 3 French examples have dates of 9.16, 4.18, and 1.17, the 1917 dated example being trench art with markings across the shell with a flower on a vine and 1918.
The one German example is also trench art with a great depiction of a butterfly and St. Mihiel etched on. A great example dated 1915.
An outstanding lot of six artillery shells all still with their projectiles. Comes ready for further research and display.
