Original French Napoleonic Upmarket Flintlock Pocket Pistol with Extensive Engraving

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a beautiful example of Napoleonic era French firearm artistry. This is a small Flintlock Pocket Pistol with an overall length of only 5 3/8", with a frame that is COVERED in high quality engraving work. It features a fold away trigger that only appears once the hammer is cocked, with a 1 1/4" screw-off barrel with a smooth bore of approximately 0.50".

The metalwork on the pistol has some of the best engraving we have seen on one of these pistols. The right side plate shows a prone lion, while the left side shows a galloping horse. On the underside and on the fold-away trigger, there is a type of beast with the face of a human and bird's wings. It really is quite extraordinary, and worthy of further research.

The action works well, and there is a safety to the rear of the cock, which prevents it from going off whilst concealed. The grip looks to be walnut, and has a lovely "fish scale" pattern checkering over the sides. It is expertly engraved, and the butt cap has a face in a helmet in the center. Definitely an upmarket exmaple.

In lovely display condition!
