Original Item: One-of-a-kind-set. Jean Anne Cheret worked at 85 Rue des Deux Ecus, in Paris (France) between 1786 and 1812. Cheret was a supplier to the Revolutionary Government and was appointed Gunmaker to Joseph-Napoléon Bonaparte, the elder brother of Napoleon Bonaparte. He was the King of Naples and Sicily from 1806 to 1808 and later became the King of Spain from 1808 to 1813. After 1813 the company became known as Cheret et fils (Cheret and Son).
This particular pair of flintlock pistols are typical of those carried by one of Napoleon Bonaparte's officers. They each are signed "Cheret a Paris" on the lock plates. The mounts are engraved brass and the walnut stocks have silver wire inlay.
The walnut grips are checkered and both cocks have military style ring necks. Barrels are 8.5 inches long, approximately .65 bore and the pistols measure 14.5 inches in overall length.
Offered in very nice display condition each pistol retains an original lead mounted flint in the jaws of the cock.
Nice and honest, totally original without evidence of any repairs or restorations. Perfect for a Napoleonic era collection. Dating from the 1790s.
