Original French M-1815 Charleville St. Etienne Flintlock Musket

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available- as used in the Napoleonic wars, once as numerous as Brown Bess Muskets the French M1777 equivalent was referred to as the CHARLEVILLE Musket. However. Charlesville was only one of the manufacturing Arsenals, the predominant one being St. Etienne.

Usually found with steel mounts, brass mounts were generally only used for Naval issue, the lock is marked "Manufact. a St.Etienne", the barrel tang marked M-1815 and has a brass pan. The 1815 and 1811 model was nearly identical to the 1777 model. Differing from the Brown Bess not only using all steel mounts the barrel is secured by three-barrel bands and not pins.

Musket is in good overall condition, the front barrel band is iron with a brass sight mounted. The 40" barrel is dated 1815 on the tang. The wood stock shows age wear and there is slight wood loss on either side of the very front portion on the barrel. The iron ramrod is a replacement. An honest gun presumably pressed into service with the great battle that the whole world watched with baited breath just around the corner!
